The Apple file system (APFS) is the default file system on MacOS High Sierra for Mac
computers with all flash drives. APFS supports strong encryption, space sharing,
snapshots, fast directory size, and improved file system basics.
When you install macOS High Sierra on a Mac solid state drive (SSD) volume or other flash
storage device, this volume is automatically converted to APFS. Fusion drives, traditional
hard drives (hard drives) and non-Mac volumes are not converted. You can't refuse to
switch to APFS.
Computers equipped with fusion Drive hybrid drive systems will continue to run on HFS+.
To install macOS High Sierra and skip the HFS+ to APFS conversion, follow these steps:
